Owosso 1836 Comstock Cabin is the city oldest surviving structure, and its journey through the years reflects the community commitment to preservation.
The Cabin was originally built on West Main Street in almost the same location where the Woodard Paymaster Building now stands in Curwood Castle Park.
In 1950, the Cabin was moved down Shiawassee Street to Bentley Park. The DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) was in charge of the move. A new foundation was built, the chimney was repaired, and new plaster was troweled between the logs.
A few years later, the Cabin was moved again to another location within Bentley Park. In the 1970s, when Curwood Castle Park was being created, the Cabin was moved once more—this time to the south of Curwood Castle where it sits today.
The Cabin now rests just a couple hundred yards from its original location nearly 190 years ago—a testament to Owosso dedication to preserving its pioneer heritage.
