History

Hood Soda Pop Shoppe: 32 Flavors of Owosso

Era: 1920s-1980s
Location: 911 West Main (Westown) and 1243 East Main

Paul Hood purchased the Owosso Bottling Works in the 1920s from the Osmer family. He would bottle pop in the mornings and deliver it in wagons in the afternoons.

The business moved to 911 West Main in Westown, where he bottled Vess Cola and 32 of his own flavors under the brand name Hood.

The name changed to Hood Bottling Works, and the retail stores were called Hood Soda Pop Shoppe. In the late 1960s, Hood had stores in Westown, at 1243 East Main, plus Corunna Road in Flint.

Hood sons Paul and David were involved in the business in their early years. Hood closed in the 1980s.
