WOAP radio station, which stands for Owosso Argus-Press, officially signed on the air January 1, 1948.
One of the station early announcers was Merrill Walker, who eventually became station manager and, with the Campbell family (the owners), a major stockholder.
Listeners came to identify WOAP and Walker as one and same, such was the strength of his role from 48 through the mid-1980s.
