Location: Southwest corner of Exchange and Washington Streets
The impressive building on the southwest corner of Exchange and Washington Streets (currently leased by Fifth Third Bank) was built in 1896 by Isaac Keeler for the Citizens Savings Bank.
In 1933 during the Depression, Citizens Bank closed and never reopened. In 1938, Owosso Savings Bank moved into the building. Extensive modernizing of the exterior occurred in 1961.
Pacesetter Bank moved there in 1980, then Old Kent Bank in 1985. Fifth Third has been there since 2001.
In October 2020, the stone facade was removed and has not been replaced. The Owosso Historic District Commission has issued a demolition-by-neglect notice. The building future remains uncertain, but the community hopes this important site—which has housed banks for nearly 130 years—will not become another parking lot.
